In the book "When the past becomes the future", historian and author Tom Nilsen links the workers' history with the development of industrial plants.

Traditional Norwegian industry such as wood processing, textile industry, fish processing and mining has played a decisive role in the rise of modern Norway. In the last forty years, large parts of this industry have been discontinued. Therefore, since the 1990s, Riksantikvaren has worked to preserve a selection of technical and industrial cultural monuments. The history of the labor movement and trade unions is a central part of Norway's history. In this book, the worker's history in text and images is linked to the fifteen technical industrial plants on the National Antiquities' conservation list. Salhus Tricatagefabrik is one of these.

The book is published by the Industrial Facilities Council.
