Read about the traffic along the Fensfjorden and Bergen and the development of rural communities along the sealine in this great book written by Anders Bjarne Fossen. Written in Norwegian.

The inland waterway between Fensfjorden and Bergen has been one of the most important waterways on the Western coast over the centuries. Here, rowing boats and other small vessels have made their daily journey between the Nordhordland villages and Bergen. Here the yachts came from the north bound for the capital of Western Norway, in the Middle Ages the kings' proud fleets sailed and later the retinues of Danish-Norwegian majesties passed through the straits.

Then came the communication revolution with steamboats and fixed route connections between Bergen and the townships, with land trade on the quayside, with post and telegraph. All the while the sealine remained the very lifeblood of the villages, indeed, even today, with bridges and land-based communications, this route has in so many ways an important role to play.
