Villsau frå Lygra

Wild sheep from Lygra

At the Lyngheisenteret, the wild sheep go outside all year round and graze in the coastal heaths. The flock of sheep does important work in taking care of the cultural landscape, and is an important part of communicating how animals have traditionally been and still are used for grazing, food and clothing production.

The wool trap for the wild sheep is two-part with fine bottom wool and coarser top wool. Villsaugarnet is thick and robust, but still soft. Finished garments become softer after washing, and the yarn is very suitable for outer garments and mittens. Wool from wild sheep is known to be relatively water resistant and very warm.

In Matstova at the Lyngheisenteret you can try wild sheep soup, stick meat and sausages, depending on the season. In the museum shop, Lyngheisenteret has a varied selection of wild sheep products: leather, yarn and knitwear are for sale, and you can also find some of this in our online shop .

We have various knitting packages with wild saw yarn. The yarn in the knitting packs is a collaboration between Lygra villsaulag and Lyngheisenteret, and is spun at Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk. See more about Lygragensaren , Jolandaluen , Isaluen long and Isa short , wild sheep socks and wild sheep mittens in our online shop. We also have wild yarn in "loose weight" if you want to knit according to your own recipe.

See also the beautiful wild sauce skins we have - here there is a larger selection, so if you want other colors you can contact us directly.
