Jubilee gloves from Osterøy

For over 100 years, Osterøy Museum has collected objects and memorabilia that tell about the people who have lived in our villages, about local cultural expressions and memorabilia that tell about the people who have lived in our villages, about local cultural expressions and characteristics. They are stories from a time when most things were cooked at home.

In the museum's collections there are several patterned knitted sweaters. This was traditional weekend clothing for men in many places in the countryside. The jerseys are knitted in a pattern of eight-petalled roses, or stripes, on a color combination of quince. Today I call this an Ostratrøye. You can read more about these at Digitalt Museum.

For the museum's centenary in 2020, a mitten pattern was made using the pattern from Ostratrøya.

In the online shop, I have both knitting packages with a pattern and yarn to knit the mittens yourself, or a pair of pre-knitted ones if you're in a hurry.
